Challenge

Google Cloud needed to build deployment tooling that enterprise customers would actually adopt — not another tool that looked great in demos but fell apart when it hit the complexity of real enterprise environments. The challenge was bridging the gap between Google’s internal deployment expertise and the messy reality of how enterprises actually ship software.

Enterprise deployment isn’t a solved problem. Every organization has different constraints — compliance requirements, legacy system dependencies, multi-cloud strategies, team structures that don’t match the architecture. A deployment product that ignored these realities would join the graveyard of tools enterprises evaluate but never adopt.

Approach

This wasn’t a consulting engagement — it was product co-creation from inside Google Cloud, working at the intersection of product development and enterprise customer needs.

Enterprise pattern recognition: Worked directly with companies like Home Depot, Nokia, Sabre, and Panera on their deployment challenges. Each engagement revealed patterns — what enterprises actually need from deployment tooling versus what they say they need in RFP responses.

Product feedback loop: Translated real-world deployment patterns into product requirements for Cloud Deploy. This meant being in the room when customers struggled with deployments, understanding their constraints firsthand, and bringing that context back to the product team.

Best practices development: Developed deployment best practices and reference architectures based on what actually worked across dozens of enterprise engagements. These became the foundation for how Google Cloud guided enterprise customers on deployment strategy.

Outcomes

  • Cloud Deploy product incorporated enterprise deployment patterns validated through direct customer engagement
  • Product-market fit validated through enterprise adoption and customer feedback
  • Deployment best practices adopted across Google Cloud’s enterprise customer base
  • Experience across 20+ enterprise engagements built the pattern library that now informs Nebari’s advisory work

Technologies Used
